Many schools, colleges and coaching institutes in Uttar Pradesh operate through a registered society. The society's memorandum and rules become the constitution of the institution, and errors made at registration are difficult to correct once activities have begun.
What to settle before drafting
Agree the objects precisely — recognition authorities read them closely. Decide the composition and tenure of the governing body, how members are admitted and removed, and how funds may be applied. Provide for meetings, quorum and record-keeping in a way the founders will actually follow.
After registration
Obtain PAN, open a bank account in the society's name and maintain separate accounts. File the annual list of governing body members, renew the registration as required and keep minutes of every meeting. Institutions seeking recognition, affiliation or exemption will be asked for these records.
